New York Editorial Shoot: a campaign built for the studio lights

New York Editorial Shoot brought five distinct looks to life for an independent fashion campaign shot across Manhattan's SoHo district, completed after a nine-hour shoot day. The brief called for colour and styling that would hold shape and shine under repeated studio lighting setups across a full working day.

The brief from the photographer was straightforward but demanding: colour that reads strongly under hard studio light while still feeling wearable off the page. The lighting plan was not an obstacle to design around; it was the central design constraint that shaped every formula and placement decision.

  • Custom balayage developed for five looks, each placed to catch a specific lighting setup
  • On-set colour and gloss touch-up kit maintained continuity across the full shoot day
  • Finishing products selected specifically to hold shape through repeated reshoots

Colour built to survive the day

The challenge of the project was maintaining five distinct looks across nine hours without a full reset between setups. Colour and finishing were planned in stages, in dialogue with the shot list, to survive continuous restyling.

  • Gloss touch-ups scheduled between each of the five looks to maintain shine
  • Finishing products chosen for hold under studio heat and repeated brushing
  • Continuity notes maintained across the full day for exact colour matching between shots
"The lighting plan was the brief. Everything else was about creating colour that could survive nine hours of it and still look considered in the final frame."
